43 crashes a day caused by distracted drivers in Colorado

There are seemingly endless stories and statistics about the number of accidents caused by distracted drivers. Coloradans are not immune to this trend and a new report says that it is a significant problem in the state. Even with law enforcement and legislators trying to reduce its frequency, people continue to believe they can multitask in this way. After a crash caused by a distracted driver, having legal advice is a key factor to secure compensation for all that was lost.

According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, on average, there are 43 accidents caused by distracted drivers every day. A large portion of these crashes cause injuries or deaths. Of the 15,673 accidents caused by distracted drivers in 2018, there were 53 deaths and 6,269 injuries.

Across the nation, there is a movement to show drivers how dangerous distracted driving can be, with April being declared “National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.” For its part, Colorado has a “Get Turned On” program that encourages drivers to not be disturbed when they are behind the wheel via a feature on iPhones that prevents text messages or any other notifications whenever the device is linked to the Bluetooth on the vehicle. Other devices have similar features and there are apps that do the same.

Hospitalizations and the accompanying medical expenses, lost time on the job, the inability to participate in a family and the need for medication and care can all result from a car accident. If the accident was caused by a distracted driver, this is an important factor in filing a case for compensation. Having help from a law firm that has experience in helping clients injured in a distracted driving auto accident is vital to filing a claim.
