The holiday season can bring dangers to the roadways

Now that the holiday season is upon us, residents in Colorado and other states are likely in a festive mood. Colanders are likely being filled up with family gatherings, holiday parties and events. While this is an exciting time to plan and shop for, it is also a time where there is an increase in dangers on the roadways. Unfortunately, while much joy is brought with the holiday season, it can also bring devastation and grief as distracted driving and drunk driving is at an increase.

There are some specific dangers to consider this holiday season when taking to the road. Whether you are a driver or a passenger, there are three risks to be aware of, especially if you are a victim of a crash. A negligent driver could overlook these concerns and be the cause of a serious or even fatal crash.

The first danger to consider is the weather. The winter months bring with it snow, ice and icy rain. Motorists might be in a rush to get to their destination, but this is no reason to overlook the dangers inclement weather can pose. Those traveling too fast for conditions could easily be the cause of a car accident.

Another danger to be aware of is the added traffic. Residents in Denver and other major cities rely on the roads to not only get them through their daily schedule or routine, but they also use the roadways to shop, get to holiday events and travel to visit family members. Increased traffic means traffic jams. It also means road rage and drivers driving carelessly or recklessly. Therefore, there is an increased chance of crashes.

Finally, due to the higher number of events and gatherings, there is a higher chance of motorists getting behind the wheel of a vehicle after consuming alcohol. An intoxicated driver is very dangerous to have on the roadways and could easily be the cause of a serious or even fatal collision.

If you are involved in a car accident this holiday season, it is important to consider the cause and liability associated with the crash. If a negligent or drunk driver is to blame, an injured victim could file a personal injury claim. This legal action could help place liability on the other driver, while also helping with the recovery of compensation for losses and damages.
